Jude Kofie, originally from Colorado, began his musical journey at the age of 10 when he discovered an old keyboard in his home. Without formal lessons, he taught himself to play by ear, developing a natural ability to understand and reproduce melodies. This early display of talent garnered attention, leading to a significant turning point in 2023. At 11 years old, Jude received a $15,000 grand piano as a gift from Bill Magnusson, a piano tuner-technician who was deeply impressed by Jude’s “Mozart-level” talent. Magnusson also arranged for professional piano lessons and committed to tuning the instrument monthly for Jude’s lifetime, providing the opportunity for formal training and support.
Throughout his early life, Jude faced health challenges, including being born prematurely and undergoing multiple heart surgeries, in addition to being diagnosed with autism. Despite these difficulties, music became a central part of his development. His dedication led to a rapid progression in skill, allowing him to proficiently navigate various musical styles and incorporate improvisations. In 2026, Jude released his debut album, “Introducing Jude Kofie,” on Octave Records. The album features his interpretations of jazz, gospel, Latin, soul, and pop songs, recorded both acoustically and with electric piano, alongside musicians Murphy Smith, Matthew Campbell, Solomon Chapman, and Parris Fleming. This album represents a significant milestone, showcasing his evolution from a self-taught child prodigy to a confident teenage recording artist.
