About

Kimberly Denise Jones, known professionally as Lil’ Kim, was born on July 11, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York City. Her early life was marked by her parents’ divorce and a tumultuous relationship with her father, leading her to leave home in her teenage years. She eventually connected with Christopher Wallace, also known as The Notorious B.I.G., who became her mentor and helped her embark on a music career. She adopted the stage name Lil’ Kim and became the sole female member of the rap group Junior M.A.F.I.A. Their debut album, “Conspiracy,” released in 1995, achieved commercial success, reaching number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and featuring hit singles like “Player’s Anthem” and “Get Money.” The album was certified gold by the RIAA, setting the stage for her solo career.

Lil’ Kim released her debut solo album, “Hard Core,” in 1996. This album debuted at number 11 on the pop charts and featured successful singles such as “No Time” (a duet with Sean “Puffy” Combs) and “Not Tonight.” “Hard Core” achieved double-platinum certification and sold over six million copies globally, making it the highest-debuting female rap album at the time. Her subsequent album, “The Notorious K.I.M.” (2000), also experienced significant success, debuting at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, earning platinum status. A major career highlight occurred in 2001 when she collaborated with Mýa, Pink, and Christina Aguilera on a remake of “Lady Marmalade,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks and earned them a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Her third album, “La Bella Mafia” (2003), continued her success, reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200 and producing hits like “The Jump Off” and “Magic Stick.”

In 2005, Lil’ Kim released her fourth album, “The Naked Truth,” while serving a federal prison sentence for perjury related to a 2001 shooting incident. Despite the circumstances, the album debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and received critical acclaim, earning a rare 5-mic rating from The Source. She returned to the public eye with appearances on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2009 and continued to release music, including mixtapes like “Ms. G.O.A.T.” (2008) and “Black Friday” (2011). Her fifth studio album, “9,” was released in 2019. Beyond music, Lil’ Kim has also made an impact in fashion, collaborating with brands like Candie’s, Versace, and MAC Cosmetics, and launching her own ventures such as Queen Bee Records and the 24/7 Goddess Collection. She has also been involved in philanthropy, supporting various causes including HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
