Limeliters

The Limeliters have continued to evolve their folk music presence, performing for global audiences and preserving their unique sound. After achieving significant recognition at the ‘hungry i’ in San Francisco, The Limeliters, featuring founding members Lou Gottlieb, Alex Hassilev, and Glenn Yarbrough, went on to sign with Elektra Records and release their self-titled debut album in 1960. Their subsequent live album with RCA Victor, Tonight in Person, soared to number five on the Billboard album chart in 1961, solidifying their prominence in the urban folk revival. That same year, their album The Slightly Fabulous Limeliters made the top ten, and their single ‘A Dollar Down’ peaked at number 60, further establishing their commercial success.

Their sustained influence is recognized through their selection for the prestigious Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster. In 2024, their remarkable journey was further chronicled with the publication of Richard S. Ginell’s book, Makin’ A Joyful Noise The Lives and Times of the (Slightly) Fabulous Limeliters, and they recently released their new CD, Until We Get It Right, continuing nearly six decades of their influential folk music tradition.
