Linda Eder

Linda Eder was born in Tucson, Arizona, on February 3, 1961, to Georg (from Austria) and Leila (from Norway). She spent her formative years in Brainerd, Minnesota, where she began her professional singing career at the age of 16, performing in local venues. Her early career also included a notable 12-week winning streak on the talent show “Star Search” in 1988. This exposure led to her discovery by composer Frank Wildhorn, who recognized her vocal talent for his upcoming musical projects. Eder’s inspirations stemmed from a young age, citing artists such as Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and Eileen Farrell.

Eder’s collaboration with Frank Wildhorn led to significant milestones in her career. She took on the lead role of Lucy Harris in the Broadway musical “Jekyll & Hyde,” which premiered in April 1997 after approximately ten years in development and extensive touring. Her performance earned her the Theater World Award for Best Broadway Debut in 1997 and a nomination for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Beyond “Jekyll & Hyde,” she also starred in other Wildhorn musicals like “Svengali” and performed on concept recordings for “The Civil War” and “The Scarlet Pimpernel.”

Throughout her career, Linda Eder has released multiple solo albums, including “Linda Eder” (1991), “It’s Time” (1997), and “By Myself: The Songs of Judy Garland” (2005). She has graced prestigious stages such as Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Greek Theater. Her performances have been featured on television, including “My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies” and “My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs.” In 2001, she wrote and starred in the “Linda Eder Christmas Special.” Additionally, Eder created and hosted “Trail Mix,” a primetime television special for Animal Planet in 2006, showcasing her diverse interests beyond music.
