Elizabeth Catherine McAlpine, born on September 21, 1999, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, began her musical journey by sharing original songs and covers online platforms such as SoundCloud and YouTube. She developed her songwriting skills from an early age, having started writing music in sixth grade. Her academic pursuits at Berklee College of Music, where she studied songwriting, provided a foundation for her career, though she ultimately left to dedicate herself to music full-time in her junior year. McAlpine’s early artistic endeavors included her debut EP, “Indigo,” released in 2018.
In 2020, McAlpine released her debut studio album, “Give Me a Minute,” which received critical acclaim and millions of streams, with the Dallas Observer naming it one of the best albums of that year. Her second album, “Five Seconds Flat,” released in 2022, marked significant career advancement, appearing on both the U.S. Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 charts. This album featured the TikTok-viral single “Ceilings,” which peaked at No. 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 with over 230 million streams and earned Platinum certification from the RIAA.
Her career progression continued with a signing to RCA Records in 2023. This led to her third studio album, “Older,” released in 2024, supported by the lead single of the same name. Beyond her solo work, McAlpine has engaged in collaborations with notable artists including Jacob Collier, Finneas, Noah Kahan, and Niall Horan. In 2025, she expanded her artistic range by portraying Nellie Collins in the Broadway premiere of “Floyd Collins” and is slated to star in “Sweet Smell of Success” at Lincoln Center in November 2025.
