Asap Twelvyy

Jamel Da’Shawn Phillips, known professionally as A$AP Twelvyy, was born on May 30, 1989, in Harlem Hospital Center in Manhattan, New York City. He spent his early childhood on Convent Avenue and 129th Street and later Lenox Avenue and 127th Street in Harlem. In 2003, he relocated to Castle Hill, Bronx. His stage name “Twelvyy” is derived from his old nickname “212,” which references the Harlem area code. Phillips met A$AP Yams, co-founder of A$AP Mob, in 2006. He was subsequently introduced to A$AP Rocky at a party in 2008. His early influences include New York artists such as Jay Z, Big L, Nas, Stack Bundles, 50 Cent, and Big Pun.

Twelvyy’s career began in 2011 with his feature on A$AP Rocky’s song “Trilla,” alongside A$AP Nast, which appeared on Rocky’s debut mixtape, “Live. Love. ASAP.” This marked his initial public recognition. In 2012, he started releasing his own music, including singles like “A.S.A.P. Bullshit,” “12 Unleashed,” and “Our World” featuring A$AP Nast. He also contributed to the A$AP Mob’s debut mixtape, “Lords Never Worry,” released on August 28, 2012, appearing on several tracks. In 2014, he released “Xscape,” intended as the second single for the A$AP Mob’s debut album, “L.O.R.D.”, and later featured on “Hella Hoes” with A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, and A$AP Nast. The “L.O.R.D.” album was ultimately cancelled.

His solo trajectory continued with the release of “Glock Rivers” in 2014, followed by its music video, which hinted at an upcoming debut mixtape. In 2016, Twelvyy toured with Flatbush Zombies during the “3001: A Laced Odyssey Tour.” He released several singles as part of the #WavyWednesdays series, including “Lords Never Worry” featuring A$AP Rocky and A$AP Nast, and “Again” featuring A$AP Ant. On August 4, 2017, A$AP Twelvyy released his debut album, “12,” under ASAP Worldwide, Polo Grounds, and RCA Records. He has since released subsequent albums, “Noon Yung” (2020) and “Kid$ Gotta Eat” (2023), and an EP, “A Quarter Til” (2022), reflecting his evolution as a solo artist.
