Born Sir Robert Bryson Hall II on January 22, 1990, in Rockville, Maryland, Logic spent his formative years in Gaithersburg. His childhood involved exposure to difficult circumstances, with both parents facing substance abuse issues. These early experiences motivated him to pursue a different path, leading him to music. He began rapping under the name “Psychological,” releasing his first unofficial mixtape, “Psychological – Logic: The Mixtape.” This early work provided opportunities for him to be an opening act for established artists like Pitbull and Ludacris, which helped him build an initial following. He later shortened his stage name to Logic.
His career began to gain traction with a series of mixtapes, starting with “Young, Broke & Infamous” in 2010. This was followed by the critically acclaimed “Young Sinatra” series, with “Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever” in 2013 drawing significant attention. This mixtape’s success led to a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings, marking a turning point in his career. His debut studio album, “Under Pressure,” released in 2014, was a commercial success, reaching number four on the U.S. Billboard 200. He continued this trajectory with “The Incredible True Story” in 2015, which debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. These albums were noted for their widespread critical acclaim and solidifying his presence in the hip-hop scene.
Logic’s subsequent albums, “Everybody” (2017), “YSIV” (2018), and “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” (2019), all debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. “Everybody” featured the impactful single “1-800-273-8255,” which became a top-three hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and brought significant recognition for its mental health advocacy. “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” included the top-five single “Homicide” featuring Eminem. Beyond music, Logic has also ventured into writing, releasing the novel “Supermarket” in 2019, which became a New York Times Best Seller, and the memoir “This Bright Future” in 2021. In 2020, he signed an exclusive deal with Twitch, becoming the first musician to do so, further expanding his reach into the streaming world.
