Lola Amour is a Filipino rock band that originated in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, in 2013. The band was formed from the merger of two rival high school bands, “Sinigang Na Baboy” and “Decaf,” comprising students from the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School. The members, who were initially competitors in school battle of the bands, also shared camaraderie in student music clubs. This foundation of competitive yet collaborative spirit contributed to their unique musical chemistry. Upon entering college, the group officially adopted the name Lola Amour, a tribute to vocalist Pio Dumayas’s grandmother.
Since their formation, Lola Amour has achieved significant milestones, particularly within the Philippine music scene. In 2016, they performed at the fourth Wanderland Music and Arts Festival, and in 2017, they won “Wanderband,” the festival’s annual battle of local independent bands. Their debut EP, “Don’t Look Back,” released in 2017, featured songs like “Fools” and “Maybe Maybe.” The band gained widespread popularity with the 2018 single “Pwede Ba” and further solidified their presence with “Sanity” in 2019. They were featured in the third season of “Coke Studio Philippines,” collaborating with rapper Al James on tracks such as “Sundan Mo Ko.” In 2021, their single “Fallen” became a hit, eventually reaching the Top Ten on Spotify Philippines, leading to the successful “Fallen Tour” in 2022. Their self-titled debut studio album was released in April 2024, featuring their groundbreaking hit “Raining in Manila.”
“Raining in Manila,” released in June 2023, became a signature song for Lola Amour, earning them a Diamond Record Award. The track speaks about moving to the city and missing friends from the province, drawing musical inspiration from Japanese city pop. This song garnered international attention, with covers by Enhypen member Jake, Thai singer BamBam, and even a live performance with Chris Martin of Coldplay at the Philippine Arena in 2024. The band has also engaged in international collaborations, including “Maria” with Australian singer Oliver Cronin and “The Moment” with Kokoro Kohatsu of the Japanese boy group Psychic Fever. These collaborations highlight their adaptability and growing global reach.
