Adam Mitchel Lambert was born on January 29, 1982, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His family soon moved to San Diego, California, where he began performing with the Metropolitan Educational Theatre network at the age of nine. He continued his theatrical pursuits throughout middle and high school, performing in various local productions such as ‘Hello, Dolly!’, ‘Grease’, and ‘Peter Pan’. After briefly attending California State University, Fullerton for musical theater, Lambert decided to pursue a professional career in entertainment, starting with a ten-month stint on a cruise ship with Anita Mann Productions and later touring Europe with a production of ‘Hair’.
Lambert gained widespread recognition in 2009 as the runner-up on the eighth season of ‘American Idol’. Following his participation, he released his debut album, ‘For Your Entertainment’, in November 2009, which reached number three on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album featured chart-successful singles like “Whataya Want from Me,” earning him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. His second album, ‘Trespassing’, released in 2012, made history by debuting at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making him the first openly gay male artist to achieve this. Concurrently with his solo work, Lambert began his iconic collaboration with the band Queen in 2012, touring globally as their lead singer.
His career continued with the release of ‘The Original High’ in 2015, which debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and contained the hit single “Ghost Town.” Beyond music, Lambert has engaged in various acting roles, including appearances in ‘Glee’ and Sofia Coppola’s ‘Fairyland’, and voiced characters in animated projects such as ‘Playmobil: The Movie’ and ‘Megamind Rules!’. He also established the Feel Something Foundation to support LGBTQ+ human rights and continues his philanthropic and activist efforts. In 2024, he joined the judging panel for ‘The Voice Australia’ and is set to make his Broadway debut as the Emcee in ‘Cabaret’.
