Adam Mitchel Lambert was born on January 29, 1982, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His family soon moved to San Diego, California, where he began performing with the Metropolitan Educational Theatre network at the age of nine. He continued his theatrical pursuits throughout middle and high school, performing in various local productions such as ‘Hello, Dolly!’, ‘Grease’, and ‘Peter Pan’. After briefly attending California State University, Fullerton for musical theater, Lambert decided to pursue a professional career in entertainment, starting with a ten-month stint on a cruise ship with Anita Mann Productions and later touring Europe with a production of ‘Hair’.
Lambert gained widespread recognition in 2009 as the runner-up on the eighth season of ‘American Idol’. Following his participation, he released his debut album, ‘For Your Entertainment’, in November 2009, which reached number three on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album featured chart-successful singles like “Whataya Want from Me,” earning him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. His second album, ‘Trespassing’, released in 2012, made history by debuting at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making him the first openly gay male artist to achieve this.
