Loona, a South Korean girl group that captured the hearts of fans worldwide, began its journey under Blockberry Creative. Initially comprised of twelve members, including Heejin, Hyunjin, Haseul, Vivi, Yeojin, Kim Lip, Jinsoul, Choerry, Yves, Go Won, HyeJu (formerly Olivia Hye), and Chuu, Loona embarked on a groundbreaking pre-debut project starting in October 2016. Over the span of 18 months, each member was introduced to the public through solo promotional singles, showcasing their individual talents and building anticipation for their official debut.
On August 19, 2018, Loona made their highly-anticipated debut as a full ensemble with the extended play [+ +], featuring the lead single “Favorite” and the title track “Hi High.” Their debut marked the beginning of a remarkable journey in the K-pop industry, characterized by their distinctive sound and captivating performances.
However, the group faced challenges, including member disputes and legal battles with their former agency. Despite the obstacles, Loona’s resilience prevailed. On June 16, 2023, the remaining members emerged victorious in a lawsuit against their label, leading to the termination of their contracts.
Beyond their music, Loona made significant contributions to promoting Korean culture abroad. In May 2021, they were appointed as ambassadors of Korean culture by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, further solidifying their status as cultural icons.
Despite the changes and challenges they encountered, Loona’s impact on the K-pop industry and their global fanbase remains undeniable. Through their music and cultural contributions, Loona continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
