About

Margaret Debay Rogers, known as Maggie Rogers, was born on April 25, 1994, in Easton, Maryland. Her early musical journey began at age seven with the harp, later expanding to piano, guitar, and banjo. She developed an interest in folk music during her high school years, even writing songs and attending a Berklee College of Music program where she won a songwriting contest. This early dedication led her to record her first independent album, “The Echo,” in 2012, and subsequently enroll at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University.

While at NYU, Rogers released another folk album, “Blood Ballet,” in 2014. Her experiences studying abroad in France and exploring dance music in Berlin significantly influenced her artistic direction, leading her to integrate electronic elements into her folk sound. A turning point occurred in 2016 when a video of Pharrell Williams reacting to her song “Alaska” during an NYU master class went viral. This exposure led to widespread recognition and a recording contract with Capitol Records, where she maintains creative control through her imprint, Debay Sounds. Her debut major-label EP, “Now That the Light Is Fading,” was released in 2017, followed by her critically acclaimed studio album, “Heard It in a Past Life,” which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2019. This album earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2020.

Rogers continued her academic pursuits, earning a master’s degree in religion and public life from Harvard Divinity School in 2022, researching the spirituality of public gatherings and the ethics of power in pop culture. Her second studio album, “Surrender” (2022), was part of her thesis. In 2023, she collaborated with Zach Bryan on the single “Dawns,” which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Her third album, “Don’t Forget Me,” was released in 2024. Throughout her career, Rogers has toured globally, headlining tours such as the “Heard It in a Past Life” World Tour (2019) and the “Don’t Forget Me Tour” (2024), and performing at major festivals including Coachella and Glastonbury. She has also engaged in activism, supporting gun control, reproductive rights, and voter registration, and performing at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
