Martha Davis, an acclaimed figure in rock and new wave music, first rose to prominence when The Motels signed with Capitol Records in May 1979, releasing their self-titled debut album that same year. After gaining initial recognition through local performances in Los Angeles, the band quickly achieved international chart success. Their second album, ‘Careful’ (1980), featured the hit singles ‘Total Control,’ which soared to No. 7 on the Australian chart, and ‘Danger,’ reaching No.
9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Martha Davis then embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut solo album ‘Policy’ in 1987, which included the single ‘Don’t Tell Me the Time,’ hitting No. 8 in Australia. Her contributions extended to film, including an appearance in the 1989 movie ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and music for the soundtracks of ‘Madhouse’ (1990) and ‘Miracle Beach’ (1992).
She released the solo album ‘I Have My Standards’ in 2020 and collaborated with Eric Allaman and Reinhard Scheuregger on the DAS7 project in 2021. Demonstrating her enduring appeal as a live performer, Martha Davis and The Motels headlined at the Cruel World Festival in Pasadena, California, in 2023, solidifying her ongoing presence in the music scene.
