About

Mica Paris, born Michelle Antoinette Wallen on April 27, 1969, in London, England, began her musical journey singing in her grandparents’ church. By her mid-teens, she was a regular performer with The Spirit Of Watts gospel choir, appearing on their 1985 EP, ‘Gospel Joy’. At 17, she became a backing vocalist for the UK band Hollywood Beyond and featured on their 1985 album, ‘If’. Her solo career officially launched in 1988 with the release of her platinum-selling debut album, ‘So Good’, through 4th & Broadway. This album featured hit singles “My One Temptation” and a successful collaboration with American soul singer Will Downing on a cover of “Where Is the Love”. This early success established Paris as a significant vocal talent in the British music scene.

Throughout her career, Paris has released seven additional albums, including ‘Contribution’ (1990), ‘Whisper a Prayer’ (1993), ‘Black Angel’ (1998), ‘If You Could Love Me’ (2005), ‘Soul Classics’ (2005), ‘Born Again’ (2009), and ‘Gospel’ (2020). Her musical range has expanded to incorporate hip-hop and house, as seen in ‘Contribution’, which notably included “If I Love U 2 Nite”, a track written by Prince. She has collaborated with a variety of artists such as Anita Baker, Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Cole, Courtney Pine, Stereo MCs, Bobby Womack, Guru, Mark Morrison, and Maxwell. In addition to her music, Paris has had an extensive presence in television and theatre. She hosted BBC Radio 2’s ‘Soul Solutions’ and narrated several music documentaries. In 2002, she presented the Channel 4 documentary ‘The Gospel of Gospel’. Her acting credits include the ITV series ‘Marple’ in 2007, where she played Amelia Walker, and a recurring role as Ellie Nixon in the BBC soap opera ‘EastEnders’ in 2020. She also starred in West End productions like ‘Mama I Want to Sing’ and ‘Sweet Lorraine’ in 1993, and featured in ‘The Vagina Monologues’ (2004) and the musical ‘Love Me Tender’ (2015).

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Mica Paris is actively involved in charity work and has received significant accolades. She was awarded the Gold Badge Award by The Ivors Academy in 2003 for her contributions to the British entertainment industry and was recognized in the Top 10 of the ‘100 Great Black Britons’. In the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to music, entertainment, and charity. She serves as an Ambassador for the Amy Winehouse Foundation, participating in numerous fundraising events. Her commitment to social causes is further evidenced by her support for the “No Means No” anti-rape and gender equality campaign, and her past ambassadorship for the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Trident.
