Miike Snow formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007. Before forming Miike Snow, Karlsson and Winnberg had achieved significant success as producers and songwriters, working with artists like Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Kelis. Notably, they won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for Britney Spears’ song “Toxic.” The band adopted an anonymous identity, using a jackalope avatar, before revealing themselves as a three-man group.
The band released their eponymous debut album, “Miike Snow,” in 2009 through Downtown Records. The album received favorable reviews from music critics. Key singles from this album included “Animal” and “Black & Blue,” both of which made a moderate impact on charts in Belgium and the United Kingdom. “Animal” later achieved platinum certification in the United States.
