About

Movements, a post-hardcore band from Rancho Santa Margarita, California, formed in January 2015. The initial lineup included guitarist Brett Chiodo and vocalist Patrick Miranda, who soon recruited drummer Spencer York and bassist Austin Cressey. The band self-released their first single, “Protection,” on January 31, 2015, followed by “Buried” and “Scripted” in March and April of the same year. After playing only one local show, the band secured a three-record deal with Fearless Records in August 2015. Their debut EP, “Outgrown Things,” produced by Will Yip, was released on March 11, 2016, and reached number 42 on the Independent Albums chart. Brett Chiodo departed the band in January 2016 and was replaced by Ira George.

The band’s career progressed with significant milestones. In April 2017, Movements were nominated for “Best Underground Band” at the Alternative Press Music Awards. They performed on the entire 2017 Warped Tour, gaining further exposure. Their debut album, “Feel Something,” also produced by Will Yip, was released on October 20, 2017. This album peaked at number 190 on the Billboard 200 chart and reached number two on Billboard’s Top New Artist Albums Chart. The band themselves climbed to number 23 on the Emerging Artists chart. In November 2018, they contributed a cover of R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” to the “Songs that Saved My Life” compilation.

Movements continued to release new music and refine their artistic direction. On July 24, 2020, they announced their second album, “No Good Left to Give,” which debuted at number 3 on the Alternative chart and has garnered over 200 million total streams in the U.S. alone. This album, again produced by Will Yip, featured singles like “Don’t Give Up Your Ghost,” “Skin to Skin,” and “Tunnel Vision.” Their third full-length album, “RUCKUS!”, released on August 18, 2023, showcases their continued evolution by incorporating influences from artists like Gorillaz and The Strokes, while still maintaining their post-hardcore roots. This album saw the band engaging in a highly collaborative writing process in the studio with producer Will Yip, making deliberate efforts to expand their musical style.
