Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, widely known as Mr Eazi, is a prominent Nigerian singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur who has made significant contributions to the music industry, particularly as the pioneer of Banku music—a unique blend of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian musical elements. His journey began in 2008 when he relocated to Kumasi, Ghana, to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). During his time at university, he established Swagger Entertainment, a party promotion company, and recorded his first guest verse on the track “My Life,” which gained popularity on campus.
In 2013, Mr Eazi released his debut mixtape, “About to Blow,” which featured hit singles like “Pipi Dance” and “Bankulize.” His international breakthrough came with the release of the Efya-assisted single “Skin Tight” in 2015, which showcased his distinctive sound and garnered widespread acclaim. Following this success, he released his second mixtape, “Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos,” in 2017, which debuted at number 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart and included collaborations with notable artists such as Tekno and Olamide.
In addition to his musical achievements, Mr Eazi is also recognized for his entrepreneurial spirit. In 2019, he launched emPawa Africa, a talent incubation initiative aimed at nurturing emerging African artists. This program has provided grants and mentorship to numerous musicians, further solidifying his commitment to the growth of the African music scene. His influence extends beyond music, as he has also signed licensing deals with major labels, including Universal Music Group.
Most recently, Mr Eazi released his debut studio album, “The Evil Genius,” in 2023, marking a significant milestone in his career. Known for his smooth vocals and innovative sound, Mr Eazi continues to be a leading figure in the Afrobeats genre, inspiring a new generation of artists and fans alike with his unique blend of cultural influences and musical creativity.
