Alabama is a country music band known for their blend of country, Southern rock, and pop, achieving widespread popularity and numerous awards. After achieving their first number one hit, ‘Tennessee River,’ on the Billboard country chart in 1980, the iconic band Alabama went on to forge a record-breaking streak of 21 consecutive number one singles across genres. Formed by cousins Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook, the group honed their unique blend of country, Southern rock, and pop over six years, performing initially as Young Country and later Wildcountry. This period included an extensive residency at The Bowery in Myrtle Beach, where the trio self-financed early recordings like ‘Wildcountry’ (1976), ‘Deuces Wild’ (1977), and ‘Alabama Band No.

Beyond their unprecedented run of number one singles, which included hits like ‘Love in the First Degree’ (1981), ‘Mountain Music’ (1982), ‘Dixieland Delight’ (1983), and ‘Song of the South’ (1988), the band released multiple multi-platinum albums. Their 1982 album ‘Mountain Music’ achieved quadruple platinum status and earned a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The 1983 release, ‘The Closer You Get…’, was certified platinum within two months and garnered another Grammy Award in the same category. Alabama was honored with the CMA Entertainer of the Year award for three consecutive years (1982–1984) and five ACM Entertainer of the Year awards (1982–1986).

The band was selected to participate in the ‘Forever Country’ mash-up track in 2016. In 2019, Alabama was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, simultaneously receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. Following the passing of founding member Jeff Cook in 2022, Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry continue to tour and record, maintaining Alabama’s enduring legacy as one of country music’s most decorated and successful groups.
