MS MR, the dynamic pop duo from New York, consists of the talented vocalist Lizzy Plapinger and innovative producer Max Hershenow. Since their formation after graduating from Vassar College in 2010, they have made significant strides in the music industry, captivating audiences with their unique blend of indie pop, alternative rock, dream pop, and dark wave. Their partnership has led to a distinctive sound that resonates with fans and critics alike, drawing comparisons to renowned artists such as Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey.
The duo first gained attention with their four-song digital demo EP, “Ghost City USA,” released in 2011. Their breakout single, “Hurricane,” launched in 2012, showcased their vintage sound and quickly climbed to number 38 on the German charts. The accompanying music video, released in April 2012, further solidified their presence in the music scene. Following this success, they released their debut EP, “Candy Bar Creep Show,” featuring hits like “Bones” and “Dark Doo Wop,” which further established their artistic identity.
In 2013, MS MR released their debut album, “Secondhand Rapture,” which included all tracks from their earlier EP and received critical acclaim. Their sophomore album, “How Does It Feel,” released in 2015, demonstrated their growth as artists and solidified their reputation in the industry. After a brief hiatus in 2017, during which Plapinger pursued her solo project LPX, the duo returned to announce their final single, “Saturn Return,” set to release in September 2023, marking a poignant conclusion to their collaborative journey.
Throughout their career, MS MR has not only produced memorable music but has also contributed to the independent music scene through Plapinger’s co-founding of Neon Gold Records. Their artistic vision and dedication to their craft have left an indelible mark on the music landscape, ensuring their legacy as influential figures in contemporary pop music.
