Nella signed with Sony Music Records in early 2020, releasing her second album "Doce Margaritas" under the label in 2021 and her third album "En Otra Vida" in 2024.
Marianella Rojas, known professionally as Nella, was born on November 3, 1989, in Porlamar, Margarita Island, Venezuela. She pursued her musical education, graduating from Berklee College of Music. Her distinct vocal style combines the folk roots of Venezuela with contemporary sounds and Andalusian influences.
Nella began to gain international recognition in 2018 when director Asghar Farhadi invited her to sing and act in his film “Everybody Knows,” featuring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. She performed songs specifically composed for the screenplay by Javier Limón, and the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, Nella released her debut full-length album, “Voy,” produced by Javier Limón for Casa Limón Records. The album received critical acclaim, with its title track, “Voy,” named among the 54 best songs of 2019 by The New York Times. This year also marked a significant milestone as she won the Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist. She embarked on the “Me Llaman Nella” World Tour, performing in the United States, Venezuela, Mexico, Spain, and the UK. During this period, she was also a special guest on Alejandro Sanz’s U.S. tour and collaborated with Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, performing a song he composed for the documentary “Free Color” about artist Cruz Diez.
In early 2020, Nella signed with Sony Music Latin, an important step in her career progression. She released her second album, “Doce Margaritas,” in 2021, and her third album, “En Otra Vida,” was released in May 2024. “En Otra Vida” is a collection of ten covers paying homage to Latin American music authors, featuring collaborations with artists like Yendry, Paula Arenas, and GALE. Nella has also collaborated with prominent artists such as Jennifer López, Juan Luis Guerra, and Carlos Vives, and has participated in projects like the HBO special “Piano y Mujer.”
