Noah Kahan was born on January 1, 1997, in Strafford, Vermont. He began writing songs at the age of eight, sharing his early work on platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube. Kahan signed with Republic Records in 2017, marking a significant step in his professional music career. His breakthrough single, “Hurt Somebody,” achieved Gold status in the United States and appeared on international charts. This single was part of an EP of the same name and preceded his debut album, “Busyhead,” released in 2019. He undertook his first tour at 19, opening for Milky Chance, and has cited influences such as Paul Simon, Yusuf Islam, and Hozier.
Kahan’s career saw further development with subsequent album releases, “I Was / I Am” in 2021. His third studio album, “Stick Season,” released in 2022, became his mainstream commercial success. The album featured hit singles like “Stick Season” and “Northern Attitude,” the former of which gained significant traction through viral TikTok videos before its official release. The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200, a first for Kahan. He expanded “Stick Season” with a deluxe version, “Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever),” in 2023, which included collaborations with artists such as Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, Kacey Musgraves, Hozier, Gracie Abrams, and Sam Fender.
In 2023, Noah Kahan received a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. His song “Stick Season” reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in January 2024 and later peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking his highest position to date. He continued to release expanded versions of “Stick Season,” including “Stick Season (Forever)” in February 2024, featuring additional collaborations with Brandi Carlile and Gregory Alan Isakov. Kahan’s commitment to mental health advocacy led to Vermont’s Governor Phil Scott proclaiming September 19, 2024, as “Noah Kahan’s Busyhead Project Day,” recognizing his initiative to provide mental health resources.
