One Ok Rock is a Japanese rock band formed in 2005, making their official debut in 2007. The band’s current lineup includes vocalist Takahiro Moriuchi, guitarist Toru Yamashita, bassist Ryota Kohama, and drummer Tomoya Kanki. Their early years saw them performing in small live venues and at Japanese summer festivals, gradually building a dedicated fanbase. This grassroots development led them to headline larger venues such as the Nippon Budokan, and eventually to major outdoor stadiums, arenas, and dome venues across Japan, marking a steady ascent in their domestic success.
The band’s international presence grew significantly following their 2012 single “The Beginning” from their sixth album, Jinsei×Boku=. This success facilitated their participation in international concerts and music festivals, broadening their appeal beyond Asia. To cater to their global audience, One Ok Rock began releasing dual versions of their subsequent albums, featuring both Japanese-English and full English tracks. Their seventh studio album, 35xxxv, achieved international recognition by entering Billboard music charts in the U.S. in 2015, and their eighth album, Ambitions, continued this trend in 2017 with a more arena rock and pop-rock sound. Demonstrating adaptability, they later experimented with electronic and pop influences in their 2019 album, Eye of the Storm, and returned to a rock-centered but modern pop-rock sound with 2022’s Luxury Disease.
Throughout their career, One Ok Rock has been recognized with multiple awards, including Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards for Eastern Breakthrough Male Band in 2016 and Rock Sound Awards for Best International Band in 2017 and Best Live Performance in 2018. They have consistently undertaken extensive global tours, both as headliners and as supporting acts for prominent international artists like Muse, Ed Sheeran, and Linkin Park, showcasing their energetic performances to a diverse audience. In 2021, the band transitioned from their previous affiliation with Amuse to establish their own management agency, 10969 Inc., highlighting their commitment to independent career management. Their upcoming eleventh studio album, Detox, is scheduled for release in 2025, further cementing their enduring impact on the music industry.
