About

Paul Rennée Belobersycky, known professionally as Paul Brandt, was born on July 21, 1972, in Calgary, Alberta, and grew up in Airdrie. Before his prominent music career, Brandt was a pediatric nurse, graduating from Mount Royal University in 1992 with a nursing degree. His musical journey began to take shape early on; he first sang “Amazing Grace” for an audience in high school and later won a talent contest at the Calgary Stampede in 1992. His demo recordings caught the attention of Warner Nashville, leading to a joint deal with Warner Music Canada and Reprise Records. These early experiences laid the foundation for his breakout success in the country music scene.

Brandt’s career launched internationally in 1996 with the release of his debut album, “Calm Before the Storm,” featuring the hit single “My Heart Has a History.” This single propelled him to become the first male Canadian country singer since Hank Snow in 1974 to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the United States. His second single, “I Do,” reached number one on the Mediabase Country chart. Following his initial success, Brandt established his own label, Brand-T Records, in 2000, allowing him greater creative independence. Under this label, he continued to release award-winning albums such as “Small Towns & Big Dreams” (2002), “This Time Around” (2004), and “Risk” (2007). His commitment to using his platform for social good is evident through his anti-human trafficking initiative, #NotInMyCity, and his work with organizations like World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse.

Throughout his career, Brandt has received numerous accolades, including eight Juno Awards and 13 Canadian Country Music Awards, making him the most awarded male artist in Canadian country music history. He was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017. Beyond music, Brandt has hosted the televised Canadian Country Music Awards multiple times and hosted “Build It Forward,” a CMT show focused on building homes for families at risk of homelessness. He also holds an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Briercrest College and Seminary, reflecting his widespread influence and dedication to both his craft and community.
