His journey began in 1999 when he co-founded the University of Oregon’s a cappella group, On The Rocks, which marked the inception of collegiate a cappella in Oregon. Hollens has since become a prominent figure in the genre, leveraging his platform to release engaging music videos on YouTube, where he has amassed over 3 million subscribers and more than a billion views since 2011.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon, Hollens expanded his influence in collegiate a cappella by recording, producing, and judging competitions across the United States. His participation in NBC’s The Sing-Off in 2010 showcased his exceptional talent, earning him acclaim from judges and solidifying his reputation in the a cappella community. He has recorded for notable groups and projects, including the Grammy Award-winning Swingle Singers and various collegiate a cappella albums.

In 2011, Hollens launched his YouTube channel, focusing on multi-tracked a cappella covers, and has collaborated with artists like Lindsey Stirling and Taylor Davis. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to join Patreon in 2013, where he has supported his musical endeavors while advising other creators. In 2014, he signed with Sony Masterworks, later releasing a self-titled album in 2015 after parting ways with the label.

Hollens has also made his mark on Broadway, debuting in “Home For the Holidays, Live on Broadway” in 2017.
