David Bowden, known professionally as Pink Sweats, was born on February 14, 1992, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was raised in a religious household where listening to Christian music was standard until he was 17. After high school, Bowden faced a three-year health challenge with achalasia. His recovery from this condition prompted a decision to pursue music professionally. He began his career at the age of 19 as a demo vocalist at Sigma Sound Studios, where he developed his songwriting skills and started producing music across different genres for artists like Tierra Whack and country duo Florida Georgia Line. He adopted the stage name “Pink Sweats” due to his habit of wearing pink sweatpants.
In July 2018, Pink Sweats released his debut single “Honesty,” which gained significant attention on streaming platforms, reaching number 10 on Spotify’s US Viral Chart. The song’s popularity was further boosted by its inclusion in Spotify’s “Are & Be” playlist. This was followed by the release of “No Replacing You” and his debut EP, “Volume 1,” in November 2018. Bowden intentionally kept his EPs short, each containing five songs, to cater to streaming trends. He continued this approach with “Volume 2,” released in March 2019. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his album release was postponed, leading to the release of the EP “The Prelude” instead.
Pink Sweats released his debut album, “Pink Planet,” in February 2021, a project that had been in development since late 2019. The album featured the single “At My Worst,” which saw a remix collaboration with Kehlani in January 2021. Pink Sweats and Kehlani performed the song on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in March 2021. His musical efforts have also led to performances at events such as the 14th Seoul Jazz Festival in May 2022. He released his second studio album, “Pink Moon,” in January 2022.
