Erick Raúl Alemán Ramírez, known professionally as Alemán, was born on February 20, 1990, in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico. His early life in Cabo San Lucas, a peninsula heavily influenced by Californian culture, shaped his musical and personal development. He grew up listening to a diverse range of hip-hop artists, both American legends like 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg, and Mexican pioneers such as Control Machete and Cartel de Santa. His father, a breakdancer, inspired his initial interest in music. Alemán began his musical journey as part of the rap group 2 Rimas, releasing the album “Click Clack Punto Exacto” in 2009. He later transitioned to a solo career, gaining local recognition with early songs like “Circo, maroma & teatro.”
At 21, Alemán moved to Mexico City to further his rap career, committing to hard work and authenticity. His solo career officially commenced in 2014 with his first album, “Pase de abordar,” released under the Homegrown label. He steadily built his reputation through persistent effort, self-investment, and maintaining transparency with his audience. His career saw a significant turning point with the release of his album “Eclip$e” in 2018, which garnered international success and led to tours across Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Spain. His collaborations with prominent artists like Snoop Dogg, B-Real of Cypress Hill, and Bizarrap further solidified his standing in the global hip-hop community.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Alemán has demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit. He co-founded the Homegrown Mafia label and is actively involved in business ventures, including a clothing line. In 2021, he received the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Latin America North Act. His long-term goal involves entering the cannabis business in Mexico once legalization occurs, reflecting his cultural connection to cannabis, a theme often present in his music and public persona. He has also been developing his own cannabis strain for two years, anticipating future market opportunities.
