Placebo achieved rapid recognition with their debut self-titled album, released in 1996, which peaked at No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart. Formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal, the British alternative rock band solidified early success with the 1997 single ‘Nancy Boy,’ reaching number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. Their distinctive sound and imagery quickly set them apart, earning an invitation from David Bowie to open several of his concerts in 1996 and perform at his 50th birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden.
After Forrests departure in 2015, the band continued as a duo supported by touring musicians. To celebrate two decades, Placebo embarked on the ‘A Place for Us to Dream’ tour in 2016, performing material from their extensive discography. Their highly anticipated eighth studio album, ‘Never Let Me Go,’ was released in 2022 to critical acclaim. Most recently, in 2024, the band released a documentary titled ‘This Search for Meaning,’ offering an introspective look into their enduring journey and significant impact on alternative rock.
