United Kingdom R5 was an American pop rock band that quickly rose to prominence, known for their energetic live performances and chart-topping albums.
R5 collaborated on the charity single "Make Some Noise" for Family Channel's Stand Up philanthropic campaign, raising awareness and support for the initiative.
R5 was named Radio Disney's Next Big Thing in 2013, a program designed to highlight emerging musical talent.
R5 released a music video for "Rock That Rock," a song specifically written for Candymania's Ring Pop, which featured fan-generated content.
GoPro highlighted R5's track 'Dark Side', noting the band's extensive social media reach, which included over 65 million Spotify streams and 200 million VEVO views globally.
Formed in Los Angeles in 2009, R5 consisted of siblings Ross, Riker, Rocky, and Rydel Lynch, alongside family friend Ellington Ratliff. The Lynch siblings moved from Colorado to Los Angeles to pursue careers in entertainment. Prior to forming the band, the siblings would stage performances for their family in their basement. After meeting Ellington Ratliff at a California dance studio, he was invited to join the group in 2009. The band utilized a YouTube web series, R5 TV, to document their journey and connect with fans, releasing their first music video, “Without You,” in September 2009. This early period included performances at various Southern California venues such as the Orange County Fair and Six Flags Magic Mountain.
In 2012, R5 signed a record deal with Hollywood Records. Their debut EP, “Loud,” released on February 19, 2013, quickly entered the top 3 on the iTunes chart. This was followed by their debut album, “Louder,” on September 24, 2013, which reached number 24 on the Billboard 200 and was recognized on iTunes’ End of the Year Album list. The album featured four singles: “Loud,” “Pass Me By,” “(I Can’t) Forget About You,” and “One Last Dance.” The band also embarked on extensive tours, including a 50-date North American tour in 2013 and their first world tour in early 2014, covering numerous countries in Europe and performing at events like the White House Easter Egg Roll and the Radio Disney Music Awards.
Their second album, “Sometime Last Night,” released on July 10, 2015, debuted at number 6 on the US Billboard 200, showcasing a more sophisticated sound and increased involvement from the band in its composition. The album included singles such as “Smile,” “Let’s Not Be Alone Tonight,” and “All Night.” In 2017, R5 released their fourth EP, “New Addictions,” which featured the single “If” and a cover of INXS’s “Need You Tonight.” The band toured extensively throughout North America, South America, Europe, Mexico, and other regions for the New Addictions Tour. In 2018, R5 announced a temporary hiatus, with members Ross and Rocky Lynch forming The Driver Era, though the original R5 members reunited for a performance of “All Night” at The Driver Era’s Greek Theatre show in June 2023.
