R5 was an American pop rock band that quickly rose to prominence, known for their energetic live performances and chart-topping albums. After securing a record deal with Hollywood Records in 2012, R5 quickly established themselves as a pop rock powerhouse, releasing their debut EP, ‘Loud,’ in February 2013 which surged into the top 3 on the iTunes chart. Formed in Los Angeles in 2009, R5 had previously released their debut EP, ‘Ready Set Rock,’ in 2010 and built a dedicated fanbase through their YouTube web series, R5 TV, which documented their journey and featured their first music video, ‘Without You,’ in September 2009. This early period included performances at prominent Southern California venues such as the Orange County Fair and Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Their highly anticipated second album, ‘Sometime Last Night,’ launched on July 10, 2015, debuting impressively at number 6 on the US Billboard 200, showcasing a more sophisticated sound and increased involvement from the band in its composition. Key singles from this album included ‘Smile,’ ‘Let’s Not Be Alone Tonight,’ and ‘All Night.’ That same year, the band released their concert movie, ‘R5: All Day, All Night.’ In 2017, R5 released their fourth EP, ‘New Addictions,’ featuring the single ‘If’ and a notable cover of INXS’s ‘Need You Tonight.’ This release was supported by the ‘New Addictions Tour,’ which saw the band perform extensively across North America, South America, Europe, and Mexico, further solidifying their international appeal and energetic live reputation. In 2018, R5 announced a temporary hiatus as members Ross and Rocky Lynch shifted focus to form The Driver Era. Despite the hiatus, the band’s enduring legacy and connection with fans were highlighted in June 2023, when R5 reunited on stage for a special performance of their hit ‘All Night’ during The Driver Era’s show at the historic Greek Theatre, reaffirming the impact of their chart-topping albums and dynamic performances on the pop rock landscape.
