Red Velvet are a K-pop group making headlines in the international market. Under the direction of SM Entertainment, the group, comprised of members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri, released their first single, ‘Happiness’ in 2014. They have since released two full-length studio albums with eight of their songs charting highly on Korea’s Goan Digital Chart. In 2015, they won the Golden Disc award for Best New Artist. Red Velvet is also known for their versatility and duality of genres, pop and R&B. They released two mini-albums: The Red, with a pop-focused sound, and The Velvet, which takes influence from R&B.
Red Velvet has gained international attention and has been recognized by both Time and Billboard magazines as one of the world’s top girl groups. In 2017, they released their second album, Perfect Velvet. The album’s lead single ‘Peek-a-Boo’, peaked at No 2 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart. The following year, they made their Japanese debut with their Red Room concert, where they performed Japanese versions of their songs. In 2019, Red Velvet embarked on the Redmare Tour, taking the group across North America to perform in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Toronto, and Vancouver.
