Johnathan Riley Green, born on October 18, 1988, in Jacksonville, Alabama, developed an early appreciation for country music, largely influenced by his grandfather, Bufford. His journey into the spotlight began at Jacksonville State University, where he balanced his studies with being a Division 1 FCS quarterback. Beyond collegiate athletics, Green also appeared on the CMT reality show ‘Redneck Island,’ showcasing early ventures into entertainment. He began releasing EPs independently in 2013, with additional releases in 2015, 2016, and 2017, steadily building his musical foundation and audience.
Green’s career saw a significant turning point in 2018 when he signed with Big Machine Label Group, now Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment. This partnership led to widespread recognition, with his single “There Was This Girl” receiving favorable reviews and charting on Country Airplay. In April 2019, he released his second single, “In Love by Now,” further solidifying his presence in country music. The release of his debut album, ‘Different ‘Round Here,’ in September 2019, featured the hit “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” His rising success was formally recognized when he received the Academy of Country Music’s New Male Artist of the Year Award for 2019.
