Rüfüs Du Sol, an Australian alternative dance group, was formed in Sydney in November 2010. The trio consists of Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt. Initially known as Rüfüs, they adopted the name Rüfüs Du Sol in the United States in January 2014 to prevent confusion with an existing funk band. This name change was made worldwide in May 2018 for consistency. The band’s debut EP, “Rüfüs,” was released on January 1, 2011, followed by their debut single “We Left” in July 2011. Two tracks from this EP, “Paris Collides” and “We Left,” achieved success on the Hype Machine charts. Their second EP, “Blue,” was released in April 2012.
The group’s debut studio album, “Atlas,” released on August 9, 2013, peaked at number one on the Australian Albums Chart. Subsequent albums, “Bloom” (2016), “Solace” (2018), and “Surrender” (2021), have all achieved top positions in Australia. Their single “You Were Right” earned them the ARIA Award for Best Dance Release in 2015. Rüfüs Du Sol has performed at major festivals globally, including Coachella and Electric Forest. In 2020, they released the live album and film “Live from Joshua Tree.” The group received a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording in 2022 for their song “Alive.” They are scheduled to release their fifth studio album, “Inhale / Exhale,” on October 11, 2024.
In addition to their musical endeavors, Rüfüs Du Sol launched Mate Maker Co., a line of hard kombucha drinks, in October 2022. The band has consistently toured globally, completing their two-year “Surrender” world tour in 2023.
