About

Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri. Her early life included accomplishments in both academics and sports, participating in track and field and holding positions in various school organizations. After graduating with a degree in music education from the University of Missouri in 1984, Crow began her career as a music teacher. During this time, she leveraged weekends to perform in bands and secured early work singing commercial jingles for notable brands such as McDonald’s and Toyota. This early experience in diverse musical settings laid the groundwork for her future in the music industry.

Crow’s professional music career began to develop significantly when she toured as a backing vocalist for Michael Jackson during his Bad World Tour from 1987 to 1989. She also contributed background vocals for other prominent artists including Stevie Wonder, Belinda Carlisle, and Don Henley. Her debut album, “Tuesday Night Music Club,” released in 1993, initially achieved slow recognition but gained widespread success with the hit single “All I Wanna Do” in October 1994. The album went on to sell over 7 million copies in the US and UK, earning her three Grammy Awards in 1995: Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Crow continued to build on this success with her self-titled second album in 1996, which included hit singles like “If It Makes You Happy” and “Everyday Is a Winding Road.” This album earned her two more Grammys for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Album. Throughout her career, Crow has released twelve studio albums, five compilations, and three live albums, achieving worldwide sales of over 50 million albums. Her contributions to music were recognized with her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, solidifying her legacy as a significant figure in American music.
