Single Mothers is a Canadian punk rock band from London, Ontario, known for their energetic live performances and raw lyrics, influencing the punk music scene since 2008. After quickly establishing themselves with a reputation for energetic live performances, Single Mothers released their debut EP, ‘Wild Party,’ in 2010. This was swiftly followed by a self-titled EP, ‘Single Mothers,’ in 2011, which was released through Secret Voice, an imprint of Jacob Bannon’s Deathwish Inc. These early releases featured notable music videos for tracks such as ‘Christian Girls’ and ‘Baby,’ significantly contributing to the band’s initial promotion and cultivating a dedicated fanbase.
This critically acclaimed album, ‘Negative Qualities,’ was released on October 7, 2014, globally through Hot Charity, with Canadian licensing handled by Dine Alone Records. ‘Negative Qualities’ garnered significant industry recognition, earning a nomination for a prestigious Juno Award. Single Mothers maintained a consistent release schedule, building on the success of their debut with the ‘Meltdown E.P.’ in 2016, followed by their second full-length album, ‘Our Pleasure,’ in 2017. The band continued their partnership with Dine Alone Records for these and subsequent releases, including ‘Through A Wall’ in 2018.
Their latest offerings include ‘Everything You Need,’ released in 2022, and ‘Roy,’ which debuted in 2023, further solidifying Single Mothers’ reputation for raw lyricism and high-energy punk rock. Andrew Thomson continues to balance his role as frontman with ongoing solo projects, maintaining a dynamic presence within the independent music scene.
