Emwah Warmington, known professionally as Skillibeng, was born on December 23, 1996, in Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica. He grew up in the rural community of Lyssons and developed an early interest in entertainment, participating in a dance group during high school. His stage name, ‘Skillibeng,’ is derived from a popular dancehall slang or toasting style from the 1980s and early 1990s, a nickname given to him by high school friends. A significant turning point in his career came after a near-death experience, which led him to dedicate himself full-time to music. His early tracks, “Skilli She Love” and “Bruk Up Party,” released in 2015 and 2016, showcased an electronic approach to the genre.
Skillibeng’s breakthrough arrived in 2019 with the hit single “Brik Pan Brik,” an anthem encouraging hustling that quickly gained traction in Jamaica and amassed millions of streams. This success initiated a period of prolific releases for the artist. In 2020, he released 43 singles and his debut album, “The Prodigy.” Notable tracks from this period include “Mr. Universe” and “Crocodile Teeth,” the latter of which later received a remix by Nicki Minaj. His rapid output continued into 2021 with 38 more singles, the release of his second album “The Prodigy: Ladies Only,” and his third album “Crocodile Teeth LP.” Throughout these years, he collaborated with various artists, including Quenga, Sleepy Hallow, Unknown T, Popcaan, and Rich the Kid, expanding his musical reach.
In 2022, Skillibeng maintained his momentum, delivering tracks like the gritty “Whap What” with F.S. and further building his reputation through collaborations. His work in 2023 included the trap-influenced “16CHOPPA” featuring Nardo Wick. The year 2024 saw the release of the hit collaboration “Jump” with Tyla and Gunna, which further elevated his international profile. These productions set the stage for his 2025 full-length album, “International,” which featured guest appearances from artists such as Ty Dolla $ign, Young Nudy, and Major Lazer. He also participated in a popular remix of Moliy and Silent Addy’s “Shake It to the Max” alongside Shenseea in 2025. Skillibeng’s consistent output and strategic collaborations have solidified his position in the dancehall and global music scene.
