The supergroup were established in 2012 as Rock 'N' Roll All-Stars, and they certainly weren't lying about their initial moniker either, bringing together a 'who's who' of rock.
Kings of Chaos formed in 2012, initially known as the Rock N Roll All-Stars. The group features a core lineup that has included drummer Matt Sorum, bassist Duff McKagan, and guitarist Gilby Clarke, all formerly of Guns N’ Roses. This core has been augmented by a changing roster of musicians from other prominent bands such as Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Cheap Trick, and Extreme. The band’s focus is on performing classic rock anthems, drawing from the catalogs of its members’ original groups and other well-known songs, rather than exclusively creating original material. Their live performances are characterized by high energy and diverse setlists.
Since their establishment, Kings of Chaos has toured internationally, including appearances at Australia’s Stone Music Fest, shows in South Africa, and performances in the United States and Latin America. Notable guest artists have included Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Glenn Hughes, Slash, and Corey Taylor. The band primarily plays cover songs, with frequent inclusions of Guns N’ Roses classics such as “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” “Paradise City,” and “Welcome to the Jungle.” They have also featured Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and Deep Purple’s “Highway Star.” In 2022, Matt Sorum announced plans for the band’s debut album and released the single “Judgement Day.”
Kings of Chaos has maintained a fluid lineup, allowing for various combinations of rock and roll talent on stage. This approach provides audiences with unique interpretations of classic hits. The group has historically included a significant number of former Guns N’ Roses members when McKagan, Sorum, and Clarke performed together. More recent lineups have included artists like Lita Ford, James LoMenzo, Billy Duffy, Corey Glover, Lzzy Hale, Rome, and Vernon Reid.
