Unto Others

Unto Others, originally formed as Idle Hands in 2017, is a prominent American gothic rock and heavy metal band hailing from Portland, Oregon. The band was established by bassist Gabriel Franco after the breakup of Spellcaster, with the intention of creating a unique sound. Their debut EP, “Don’t Waste Your Time,” released in June 2018, showcased their innovative approach and was produced by Franco himself, who also contributed vocals and rhythm guitar. This early work laid the foundation for their subsequent success, culminating in their debut album, “Mana,” released on May 10, 2019, which received critical acclaim and solidified their presence in the metal scene.

In September 2020, the band rebranded as Unto Others for legal reasons, adopting a name inspired by the Golden Rule. This change marked a new chapter in their career, as they began working on their second studio album, “Strength,” which was released on September 24, 2021, via Roadrunner Records. The album featured a notable cover of Pat Benatar’s “Hell Is for Children” and entered the German and Swiss album charts, further establishing their reputation. Their single, “I Believe in Halloween,” released shortly after, garnered significant attention and contributed to their recognition as a rising star in the metal genre.

Unto Others continued to build on their success with extensive touring, including a UK and Ireland tour in 2022 and a co-headlining tour with Carcass in the fall of the same year. Their dynamic performances and engaging stage presence have captivated audiences, showcasing their growth as a band. In 2024, they released their third studio album, “Never, Neverland,” through Century Media Records, further expanding their discography and solidifying their status in the heavy metal landscape.

Musically, Unto Others has been praised for their unique blend of gothic rock and heavy metal, drawing comparisons to iconic bands like Iron Maiden and The Sisters of Mercy. Frontman Gabriel Franco’s storytelling approach in his lyrics, which explore themes of extremes such as war and addiction, adds depth to their music.
