Founded in 1940, the Utah Symphony has established itself as one of America’s premier symphony orchestras, renowned for its exceptional performances and extensive recording history. With a commitment to cultural enrichment in the Intermountain West, the orchestra boasts a talented roster of 85 full-time musicians who deliver over 175 concerts each season, captivating audiences both locally and internationally. The orchestra’s inaugural concert took place in Salt Lake City under the direction of Hans Henriot, setting the stage for a legacy of musical excellence.

The Utah Symphony gained national recognition during the tenure of Maurice Abravanel, who served as Music Director from 1947 to 1979. Under his leadership, the orchestra embarked on four international tours and produced over 100 recordings, including pioneering cycles of Mahler symphonies.
