Valentin Le Du, known as Vald, was born on July 15, 1992, in Aulnay-sous-Bois, Seine-Saint-Denis, France. His academic background includes studying at Lycée privé catholique l’Espérance, where he earned a Baccalauréat S (Sciences). He pursued higher education by studying medicine for one semester before transitioning to mathematics and computer science, ultimately graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, he studied sound engineering, which contributed to his musical journey. Vald commenced his rapping career at the age of 17, releasing his first mixtape, “NQNTMQMQMB (Ni Queue Ni Tête Mais Qui Met Quand Même Bien)” in 2012, followed by “Cours de rattrapage” in the same year. These early works were later re-edited as a double CD and released through his official website in 2016.
Vald’s professional trajectory saw significant growth with the release of his debut EP, “NQNT (Ni Queue Ni Tête),” on October 27, 2014. The accompanying music video for “Bonjour” garnered considerable attention, contributing to his rising profile. This success was followed by the release of the EP “NQNT 2” on September 25, 2015. On January 20, 2017, Vald released his debut album, “Agartha,” under Mezoued Records, Suther Kane Films, Millenium, Capitol, and Universal. This album achieved platinum certification in France. A subsequent leak of song material led to the release of the EP project “NQNT 3,” further solidifying his presence in the French rap scene. His second album, “XEU,” released on February 2, 2018, featured collaborations with artists such as Sirius, Suik’on Blaz AD, and Sofiane, and earned a double platinum certification. The mixtape “NQNT33” followed in September 2018, and his third album, “Ce monde est cruel,” was released in October 2019.
Vald has continued to achieve commercial success and critical recognition, with several of his releases charting highly. His joint album with Heuss l’Enfoiré, “Horizon vertical,” released in 2020, reached number 20 in France and achieved Gold certification. In 2022, his album “V” topped the charts in France and Belgium (Wallonia) and reached number 43 in Belgium (Flanders) and number 1 in Switzerland, earning a double platinum certification in France. He also made notable chart appearances with singles such as “Désaccordé” (2018) and ‘Peon’ featuring Orelsan (2022), both of which reached number 1 in France. Vald’s consistent output and ability to collaborate with other significant artists have firmly established his position in the contemporary French hip-hop landscape.
