United States Veruca Salt is an American alternative rock band, known for their influential sound and hits like "Seether." They have navigated significant lineup changes and reunions.
The band's first release was the single "Seether"/"All Hail Me" on Minty Fresh Records, in 1994. The single was a success and Veruca Salt accompanied Hole on a tour, before releasing their first full-length album, "American Thighs." The album, which included "Seether" and "All Hail Me," eventually reached Gold status.
After signing to Geffen Records, the band quickly gained in popularity as "Seether" became an MTV hit. A second single, "Number One Blind," was released along with a music video directed by Steve Hanft. Later, after a lineup change and record label issues, Post left Geffen Records.
Post formed her own Velveteen Records label, and signed a distribution deal with Beyond Music. The reformed band released the album "Resolver," which spawned both a single and video for "Born Entertainer" in May 2000.

Veruca Salt teamed up with Rock the Vote for the 2018 American election, releasing a track titled "Low Grade Fever" from the "Ghost Notes" recording sessions.
Veruca Salt was founded in Chicago in 1992 by vocalist-guitarists Nina Gordon and Louise Post, along with drummer Jim Shapiro and bassist Steve Lack. The band, named after the character from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” quickly rose to prominence in the alternative rock scene. Their debut single, “Seether,” released in 1994 on Minty Fresh Records, became a significant hit and propelled them to accompany Hole on tour. The success of “Seether” and the follow-up album “American Thighs” led to a Gold certification, solidifying their place in the music industry.
After signing with Geffen Records, Veruca Salt continued their success with the album “Eight Arms to Hold You” in 1997, produced by Bob Rock. The lead single “Volcano Girls” gained exposure, notably as the opening theme for the film “Jawbreaker.” The band performed “Shutterbug” on Saturday Night Live, sharing the musical slot with Sting. However, internal changes began in 1998 with the departure of Shapiro and later Gordon and Lack, leading to a period where Louise Post continued the band with other musicians, releasing albums like “Resolver” (2000) and “IV” (2006).
A significant turning point occurred in 2013 when the original lineup–Nina Gordon, Louise Post, Jim Shapiro, and Steve Lack–reunited. This reunion marked their first collective work in over a decade. They released the “MMXIV” EP in 2014, featuring new material and a re-release of “Seether.” The original lineup then released their fifth studio album, “Ghost Notes,” in 2015, which was met with critical acclaim. Veruca Salt has continued to tour and engage with their fanbase, including collaborations like joining Rock the Vote for the 2018 American election.
