Wet Leg, formed in 2019 by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers on the Isle of Wight, quickly rose to prominence with their unique indie rock style. Prior to co-founding Wet Leg, Teasdale, originally from Merseyside, had a history of performing as a musician and pianist on the Isle of Wight and was known as RHAIN in the Bristol music scene. She and Chambers, who first met at Platform One College of Music, cultivated a friendship over ten years before deciding to form the band. Their debut single, “Chaise Longue,” released on June 15, 2021, instantly garnered significant attention, accumulating millions of streams and video views. This success was followed by their second single, “Wet Dream,” released on September 28, 2021, further solidifying their reputation for distinctive music.
The band’s self-titled debut album, released on April 8, 2022, through Domino Recording Company, debuted at number one on both the UK Albums Chart and Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart. This critical and commercial success led to a nomination for the 2022 Mercury Prize. At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, Wet Leg secured wins for Best Alternative Music Album for their debut and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Chaise Longue,” alongside a nomination for Best New Artist. Their accolades continued at the 2023 Brit Awards, where they won Best New Artist and Best British Group. In 2023, they remixed Depeche Mode’s track “Wagging Tongue,” earning them a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
In 2025, Wet Leg formally expanded to a five-piece, integrating long-term touring musicians Henry Holmes (drums), Josh Mobaraki (guitar, keyboards), and Ellis Durand (bass) as core members. This new lineup released their second studio album, “Moisturizer,” on July 11, 2025, which also reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The band has toured extensively, including headlining tours in the UK, US, and Europe, and supporting Harry Styles on his Love On Tour. Their career progression highlights a consistent trajectory of artistic development and widespread recognition within the music industry.
