About

Whitney Duncan was born on August 3, 1984, in Scotts Hill, Tennessee. Her early exposure to music came from her grandfather. She began performing at local church events, festivals, and talent shows. In her early teens, she regularly performed in Nashville at various clubs, including Tootsie’s Lounge. Her persistence led to signing a recording contract during her senior year of high school, where she recorded her own songs. In 2004, one of these songs, “My World Is Over,” became a duet with Kenny Rogers and was featured on his “42 Ultimate Hits” album, charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

In 2007, Duncan gained wider recognition as a contestant on the reality television series “Nashville Star,” where she finished as the fifth-place finalist. Following this, she signed with Warner Bros. Records Nashville. Her first solo single, “When I Said I Would,” was released in August 2008, reaching No. 48 on the U.S. country charts. Subsequent singles included “The Bed You Made” (December 2008) and “Skinny Dippin'” (July 2009), which also peaked at No. 48. Her debut album, “Right Road Now,” was released in April 2010. Beyond her music career, Duncan participated in the 23rd season of “Survivor: South Pacific” in 2011, finishing in 9th place and becoming a member of the jury. Three years later, she appeared on “The Amazing Race 25” in 2014 with her then-fiancé, Keith Tollefson, where they placed eighth.

In 2016, Duncan co-founded the country music band Post Monroe with Ashlee Hewitt and Shelby McLeod. The band later transitioned to a duo after McLeod’s departure in late 2017. Duncan has continued to release music, including her EP “Heartbreaker” in 2021 and “I’m the Fire” in 2022. She has also contributed as a songwriter for other artists, co-writing Christian Kane’s “Making Circles” and Danielle Bradbery’s “Young in America.” Her song “So Sorry Mama” was featured in the 2011 film “Footloose” and its soundtrack.
