Jeffery Lamar Williams II, known professionally as Young Thug, was born on August 16, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia. Raised in the Jonesboro South projects, he began his musical career in 2010, making a guest appearance on TruRoyal’s song “She Can Go.” He followed this with a series of mixtapes titled *I Came from Nothing* between 2011 and 2012. His early efforts attracted the attention of fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, who signed Young Thug to his 1017 Records in 2013. That same year, he released his debut mixtape with the label, *1017 Thug*, which garnered positive reviews for its originality and unique sound.
Young Thug gained significant mainstream recognition in 2014 with singles like “Stoner” and “Danny Glover.” His versatility was further demonstrated through guest appearances on tracks such as T.I.’s “About the Money,” Tyga’s “Hookah,” and Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle.” In 2014, he signed a solo recording contract with 300 Entertainment, an imprint of Atlantic Records. Throughout 2015 and 2016, he continued to release a series of critically acclaimed mixtapes, including *Barter 6*, the *Slime Season* series, and *Jeffery*.
His career saw further elevation in 2017 when he was featured on Camila Cabello’s worldwide hit “Havana,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2018, he earned a Grammy Award for Song of the Year for his contributions to Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.” His debut studio album, *So Much Fun* (2019), topped the US Billboard 200, followed by his second album, *Punk* (2021). While incarcerated, he released his third studio album, *Business Is Business* (2023), and was released in October 2024 after accepting a plea deal. His fourth studio album, *UY Scuti*, is scheduled for release in 2025.
