Yumi Zouma is a celebrated New Zealand alternative pop band that originated in Christchurch, Canterbury. Formed by Josh Burgess, Charlie Ryder, and vocalist Kim Pflaum, the group began their musical journey in 2014, utilizing file-sharing services to collaborate remotely. Their debut release, EP I, garnered significant attention, leading to a record deal with Brooklyn-based label Cascine. In 2016, Yumi Zouma released their first full-length album, Yoncalla, showcasing a refined sound that transitioned from their earlier long-distance writing approach to a more collaborative studio environment. In 2020, Yumi Zouma signed with Polyvinyl Record Co. and released their third studio album, Truth or Consequences, featuring standout singles like “Right Track / Wrong Man” and “Cool For A Second.” Their fourth album, Present Tense, released in 2022, was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing their adaptability and commitment to their craft.
