The wonderful Aasif Hakim Mandviwala, who is known professionally as Aasif Mandvi, is a stage and screen actor, a comedian, and a writer. He is best known for playing Ben Shakir in the hit CBS supernatural drama Evil, for writing, producing and appearing in the HBO comedy series The Brink, and for The Daily Show. His book, No Land’s Man, was published in 2014.
Born in India, and raised in England, Mandvi later moved with his family to Florida when he was 16-years-old. With an interest in performing, he attended the University of Florida to study Theatre. After graduating, he worked as a performer at Walt Disney World Resort, before moving to New York where he began appearing in off-Broadway productions. He was also in a band, and won an Obie Award for his acclaimed one-man show, Sakina’s Restaurant. He made his TV debut in an episode of Miami Vice in 1988, and his film debut two years later in the low budget action film No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers. He has since gone on to appear in countless film productions opposite some big names, including Bruce Willis in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Robert De Niro in Analyze This, Kevin Spacey in Margin Call, Jennifer Aniston in Mother’s Day, and Ricky Gervais in Blazing Samurai. His numerous TV credits include such shows as Law & Order, ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Halal in the Family, and A Series of Unfortunate Events.
