Anthony “Tony” Capuano is the president and chief executive officer of Marriott International, Inc., the world’s largest hospitality company, overseeing a portfolio of iconic travel brands. Since joining Marriott in 1995, Mr. Capuano has been a key player in the company’s growth trajectory, notably contributing to the strategic acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in 2016. Under his leadership, Marriott has expanded to over 8,600 properties across 139 countries, further solidifying its status as a leader in the hospitality industry.
Before ascending to the role of CEO in February 2021, Mr. Capuano served as Group President of Global Development, Design, and Operations Services. In this capacity, he was instrumental in driving the strategic growth of all Marriott brands, while also overseeing the global design team and establishing operational standards for thousands of properties worldwide. His leadership was pivotal in the development of EDITION Hotels, a luxury lifestyle brand that has redefined modern hospitality.
Mr. Capuano began his career at Marriott in the Market Planning and Feasibility team, where he assessed the economic viability of new and existing hotels. This foundational experience equipped him to lead Marriott’s development efforts across North America, the Caribbean, and Latin America, eventually taking on global responsibilities in 2009. His extensive knowledge of the company and the hospitality sector has provided invaluable insights to the Board of Directors.
A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Hotel Administration, Mr. Capuano is actively involved in various industry organizations, including the Cornell Hotel Society and the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s IREFAC Council. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Save Venice, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the artistic heritage of Venice, Italy, showcasing his commitment to both professional excellence and community engagement.
