Chip Chipperson

Chip Chipperson is an on-air character created and performed by American comedian Jim Norton, born James Joseph Norton on July 19, 1968, in Bayonne, New Jersey. Norton, who developed the character as a distinct persona, launched “The Chip Chipperson Show” as an animated web series in 2016 through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. This initiative successfully raised over $61,000 from 724 donors, funding the production of five episodes by Big Hug Productions. The character originated as a humorous way for Norton to tease his girlfriend, eventually evolving into a popular and recognizable part of his comedic repertoire.

Following the success of the animated series, “The Chip Chipperson Podacast” officially launched on April 9, 2017, as a weekly audio and video podcast on the Riotcast network. Norton voices Chip Chipperson and features other characters he created, including Uncle Paul Harghis, Jelly, Edgar Mellencamp, and Ted Scheckler. The character’s popularity grew significantly, leading to “Chip Chipperson” receiving his own dedicated slot on Jim Norton’s and Sam Roberts’ SiriusXM show in 2018. This career progression from a personal comedic device to a funded animated series and then to a dedicated podcast and radio segment highlights the character’s unique appeal and Norton’s ability to diversify his comedic output. In May 2020, Norton further expanded his character universe by debuting “The Doug Bellcast,” another podcast featuring a new persona, Doug Bell. In 2025, Jim Norton also started a new podcast, “Jim Norton Can’t Save You.”
