Art Simone is an Australian Drag artist, actor, producer and make up artist. His extreme popularity is reflected in his 125k following on Instagram. He said that he could remember trying on heels from dressing up boxes from a young age and has always had a passion for fashion and flair. At high school he developed an interest in make-up and inventing different characters. His first drag performance was at an under 18’s party where he borrowed his sister’s dress.
Simone first started to work in cabaret venues in 2010; he has won awards as “Melbourne Drag Performer of the Year”, known for the extravagant frocks and wonderful personality.
He says that a drag artist is “someone confident and proud of who they are and what they bring to stage”. Simone made a popular guest appearance on the “reality TV” series “The Bachelor”. On the show, the contestants were encouraged to paint their “inner drag queens”. He gave artistic advice about “embracing the gorgeousness inside and out”.
Simone has performed across Australia and around the world at cabarets, events and shows.
He has worked on films, TV programmes and theatre and has acted in “Meme Girls” at the Malthouse Theatre, which is about searching for identity in speaking to strangers on the internet. He has featured in commercials, such as the AAMI Insurance advert. He has worked with famous companies such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Nandos and Benefit Cosmetics, as well as having had work displayed in the National Gallery of Victoria.
