Best known as the actor from Moonlight, Ashton Sanders is a 25 year old artist who is also involved in the film industry as a producer too. Sanders graduated from Grand Arts High School in Downtown Los Angeles in 2013. He then studied a BFA at the Theatre School at DePaul University, although he took time off from it in order to focus on his acting career. Sanders first film debut was in 2013 for The Retrieval, a film directed by Chris Eska. In 2015, Sanders was offered a small role in Straight Outta Compton. In the following year, he appeared in an episode of Refinery29’s web series titled The Skinny. In 2016, Sander’s also appeared in the drama film directed by Barry Jenkins, titled Moonlight. After it’s premier at the Telluride Film Festival, Moonlight received massive critical acclaim, and many accolades, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture – Drama. It’s success was so big that it won three Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali. Sanders’ role was praised by many critics, including The Guardian’s Benjamin Lee, who called his acting “powerful”. Apart from his success with Moonlight, Sanders also appeared in The Equalizer 2, Captive State and Native Son.
