The fantastic Baby Animals are an Australian hard rock band, consisting of members Suze DeMarchi, Dave Leslie, Dario Bortolin, and Mick Skelton. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1991, and peaked at No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and the group also won Album of the Year, Breakthrough Artist – Album, and Breakthrough Artist – Single (for Early Warning) the same year. They have since released a further three studio albums.
Baby Animals were formed in Sydney in 1989 by drummer Frank Celenza, lead vocalist and guitarist Suze DeMarchi, backing vocalist and guitarist Dave Leslie, and backing vocalist and bass guitarist Eddie Parise. They worked the city’s club and pub circuit, and were signed in August 1990 to a publishing deal with SBK Songs and to the newly formed label Imago Recording Company. They recorded their debut album, Baby Animals, in New York, and prior to its release in September, their single, Early Warning, came out in April. The group saw live and single successes, as well as winning three awards, and a second album, Shaved and Dangerous, came out in 1993. After Imago Records folded, the group disbanded in 1996.
A decade later all four original members reformed the band, and their third album, Il Grande Silenzio, came out in 2008 followed by a sell-out tour of Australia. In 2009 Celenza and Parise left the band, with Matt Cornell on bass guitar and vocals, and Mick Skelton in drums joined. Cornell was later replaced by Dario Bortolin. In 2013, their fourth album, This Is Not the End, came out.
