Ben Abbott’s journey into bladesmithing began at the age of 13, inspired by historical arms and armor observed during museum and castle visits in England. His initial attempts to create a sword led to a more focused pursuit of knife making, which he commenced at approximately 17 years old. Over the years, Abbott developed a deep understanding of blade nuances, dedicating himself to this craft. His early career involved making various items, including knives, tools, ornamental ironwork, and jewelry.

Abbott gained widespread recognition as a two-time champion on the television series “Forged in Fire.” A significant milestone in his career was the forging of a winning khanda sword for the show, which marked his first successful completion of a sword. This achievement highlighted his dedication and skill under competitive pressure. Following his success as a contestant, Abbott transitioned to a role as a judge on “Forged in Fire,” where he continues to share his extensive knowledge and experience in bladesmithing.

In addition to his television appearances, Ben Abbott is the proprietor of Ashgrove Forge, where he practices his craft as a blacksmith, bladesmith, and jeweler. He also provides instructional content through Billet to Blade, an online platform where he teaches students how to forge knives and Damascus patterns. His work includes creating chef’s knives and Damascus Santoku blades, combining traditional methods with precise execution.
