Ben Abbott is a prominent figure in the world of bladesmithing and reality television, best known for his role as a judge on the History Channel series Forged in Fire. Born in England, Ben’s fascination with arms and armor began at the age of 13, inspired by visits to museums and castles across his homeland. Unable to purchase a sword of his own, he embarked on a journey to create one, starting a lifelong passion for bladesmithing.
His early attempts at sword-making were met with setbacks, prompting him to refine his skills by focusing on crafting knives. By age 17, he had mastered the art of knife-making and continued to expand his expertise across various disciplines, including tools, ornamental ironwork, jewelry, and furniture.
Ben gained widespread recognition when he competed on Forged in Fire, ultimately claiming victory twice as champion. His success led him to join the show as a judge, beginning in the fourth season. Over the years, he has become a fixture on the series, known for his keen eye and technical insights into bladesmithing craftsmanship.
In addition to his television career, Ben is a devoted husband to Heather, a choreographer, dancer, and artist, with whom he welcomed their son Alden in October 2020. Ben Abbott remains a respected authority in the bladesmithing community, admired not only for his skill and expertise but also for his understanding of the challenges faced by contestants striving to forge their way to victory.
