Charlie Day

Charles Peckham Day was born on February 9, 1976, in New York City and spent most of his childhood in Middletown, Rhode Island. He attended Merrimack College, graduating in 1998 with a BA in art history, and was active in the student theater organization. During his summers from 1997, he participated in training programs at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. His early career involved small television roles, advertisements, and voiceovers. He also worked waiting tables and answering phones for a telethon to support himself, demonstrating his early commitment to the entertainment industry.

In the early 2000s, Day made guest appearances in various television shows, including “Law & Order,” “Third Watch,” and “Reno 911!”. A pivotal moment in his career came in 2005 with the premiere of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on FX. Beyond starring as Charlie Kelly, Day also served as a writer and executive producer for the series, which became the longest-running live-action comedy on American television in 2021. His performance on the show earned him nominations for a Critics’ Choice Television Award and a Satellite Award in 2011. Since November 2021, he, along with his co-creators, has been releasing “The Always Sunny Podcast,” offering behind-the-scenes insights into the show.

Day’s film career began to gain prominence in the 2010s with roles such as Dale Arbus in “Horrible Bosses” (2011) and its 2014 sequel, and Dr. Newton Geiszler in Guillermo del Toro’s science fiction film “Pacific Rim” (2013). He also ventured into voice acting, lending his voice to characters like Art in Pixar’s “Monsters University” (2013) and Benny in “The Lego Movie” (2014) and its sequel. In 2023, he voiced Luigi in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and made his directorial debut with “Fool’s Paradise.” Day continues to be active in various projects, including the Apple TV+ series “Mythic Quest,” which he co-created.
